Overview: Following seventeen years as a professional classical singer, Barbara Hocher pursued a career in arts administration within the broad vocal arts arena. After earning a Master of Arts degree in arts administration at New York University, she worked with the world-renowned artist, Marilyn Horne, coordinating her professional activities and special projects. Then, as Executive Director of the Marilyn Horne Foundation, a nonprofit organization devoted to classical song and to emerging artists, she was responsible for all aspects of the foundation’s activities, including programming, fundraising, governance, marketing, and fiscal planning and management.
When the Foundation’s programs became part of Carnegie Hall in 2010, she became a program consultant to those programs, now flourishing as part of the Marilyn Horne Legacy at Carnegie Hall. She has consulted with other nonprofit organizations in the areas of development and special events.
Ms. Hocher now shares her knowledge and experience in these areas through lectures and Q&A sessions with students of arts management in colleges and universities.
